Morzine is an ideal holiday destination for food-lovers with a great range of quality restaurants. From fine-dining to some really great takeaways, there really is something for all tastes. We give you a rundown of our favourite restaurants to try just a stone’s throw from our collection of Morzine chalets.
L’Etale – Route du Telepherique du Pleney
L’Etale, which is located directly opposite chalet les Pistes in the centre of Morzine, is considered by many to be one of the best restaurants in town. The menu suits all budgets and includes a good selection of pizzas, meats and many speciality local dishes from the Savoie region. The atmosphere is lively with the team of waiters always on the move and the arrival of certain dishes is almost theatrical. Many visitors opt for one of the sharing dishes such as the Potence (a flamed meat hook dish), the Cheese Fondu or the Raclette (a huge half-moon of cheese to melt with accompaniments). If you happen to have a birthday in your group don’t forget to mention it to the staff- they will put on quite a show!
Le Clin D’oeil – 63 Route de Plan
Kristel and her partner chef Jean Noel have truly created something special with the Clin d’Oeil. A warm, welcoming atmosphere will greet you at this restaurant located within walking distance of all our chalets in Morzine. The menu includes their famous Cassoulet (make sure you’re hungry if you order this dish!), some delicious duck dishes, excellent steaks, ribs and several Savoyard specialities. Vegetarians should try the superb cep mushroom risotto whilst those opting for the fish of the day can be assured that deliveries come directly off the boats in the South of France – something that is not always the case in this corner of France. And with 75 wines on the wine list, you can be assured you will find the perfect accompaniment to you meal. The restaurant even offers a takeaway option for any guests that really don’t want to leave our chalets on the staff day off. A new addition this winter will be a heated and covered terrace which will extend the capacity of this very popular Morzine restaurant.
La Rotonde – Avenue de Joux Plane
Vincent Baud, took over the Rotonde in 2012 as a sister restaurant to the ever-popular Etale. The restaurant has undergone some recent renovations including the introduction of a superb partially covered terrace equipped with heat lamps. The menu offers a good selection of pizzas, salads, meats and Savoyard dishes. There are some typically French starters on offer including French onion soup, foie gras and snails for the adventurous! For a main course, meat lovers should try the steaks, duck, Moroccan lamb or their ‘piece de la resistance’ the ‘Rib of beef with 3 sauces’ for 2 people to share. The vegetarian options are more limited but of good quality including risotto and pasta dishes, omelettes and salads. For children there is a 10 euro menu which includes a main dish, ice cream or cake and a drink.
Mammas – 125 Rue de Bourg
Mammas is the ideal choice for those seeking home comforts such as Burgers and fish and chips along with noodles, pizzas, pasta and a range of daily specials. The staff are friendly, portions are generous and the atmosphere is bustling. The restaurant is eat-in or take-away giving guests greater flexibility and a faster option in the heart of Morzine, close to many popular bars.
Bombay Ski Club – Rue de Bourg
Following the success of the Bombay Ski Club restaurant in Les Gets, the owners have decided to branch out into Morzine with a new takeaway due in time for the new winter season. It is yet to be confirmed whether the menu will mirror that of the original restaurant, however there are likely to be many Indian favourites on the menu. If the quality matches the Les Gets restaurant, this takeaway is likely to be a hit with visitors and locals alike.
