Morzine Christmas

ChristmasA Morzine Christmas! We can scarely believe that it’s almost a month since Christmas, the winter seems to be flying by! Here at Riders Refuge we enjoyed a fantastic festive week with our chalet guests. We thought we would share an account of our Christmas here in snowy Morzine along with a few pictures.

Many of our guests staying in our chalets at Christmas tell us that it is the relaxation that they enjoy the most. Christmas can be a great but stressful time in the UK, with too many extra tasks to mention including cooking the Christmas meal and the dreaded washing up! At Riders Refuge, we aim to relieve the pressure by taking care of the preparations, leaving you free to enjoy a fun and relaxing week skiing in Morzine with family or friends.

It is Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day when the main celebrations in France occur including special carol services and present-giving. However, there are a variety of events taking place throughout the festive period including fireworks, live-music and shows for children.

Christmas Day at Riders Refuge starts with a special breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for our chalet guests accompanied by a glass of champagne. For any little ones we can also provide something fizzy but with a little less alcohol content! All our chalets are decked out with trees and other festive decorations to create that proper Christmas feel.

Once our guests are fully-fuelled from breakfast, they can either choose to relax in the chalet, opening presents or to celebrate by hitting the slopes. Skiing and snowboarding on Christmas Day never loses its appeal with a host of brilliant costumes on show and a truly great atmosphere! For those that prefer, why not go sledging or ice skating in Morzine’s main square?

After you’ve finished your activities for the day and returned to your chalet, we will serve you a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. We can even provide those extras that are hard to source in France (such as cranberry sauce and brandy butter). We are also happy to prepare other options for vegans, vegetarians and those who prefer an alternative to Turkey. Equally, we can be flexible on timings on Christmas Day as we understand that different groups will have varying routines. If you prefer to eat a little earlier than normal, just let us know and we will happily bring your mealtime forward.

In the evening, you can either enjoy some festive drinks in the chalet or venture out to the bars of Morzine to enjoy some Christmas cheer. Best of all, if a few drinks leads to a few more that evening, you can wake up on Boxing day rest assured that the only chore that awaits is another day of skiing!
