Snow Forecast for Morzine this weekend is looking like a perfect start to winter. After a very hot summer and a dry autumn with Avoriaz seeing a couple of snow storms back in October this weekend looks like a welcome return to winter!!
What is the Morzine snow forecast? Well the Alps are set for a dramatic snowstorm this weekend. However, as is always the case in the mountains the long range forecast can vary until a few days out. But one thing is for sure for Morzine, snow is forecast even falling down below Morzine to the valley floor.
Check out the ECM pressure chart it is showing unstable arctic air heading southwards to the French Alps. We can expect this weather front later this week. Arriving on a strong westerly wind which will be mild at first then but with temperatures plummeting to below zero on Saturday. The Western Alps will recieve most of the snowfall which is great news for Morzine and the Portes Du Soleil. The Morzine snow forecast looks strong for this winter too.
The snow will firstly fall on the higher areas such as Mont Blanc Massif to the south of the PDS and Swiss Valais slightly to the east. As the weekend goes on and more cold arctic air arrives from the North we will see snow at lower altitudes. Meteo.fr shows snow down to as low as 200m on Sunday.
Some weather forecast websites are predicting over 1m of snow falling between Friday and Saturday. This will be above 2200m in the North Western Alps. With less snow and precipitation the further south and east you go. However as always in the Alps there will be exceptions due to the unique micro climates in the mountains.
We definitely know that the temperature drop will allow the Portes Du Soleil ski area get ahead of the game with our snow canons. The PDS will be able to get a good snow base down as we have an extensive snow making system in place.
Morzine Snow Forecast winter 2016
This winter is potentially going to be EPIC! We know the British press has widely reported that this winter will be harsh in the UK. This is due to the fact we are going to experience moderate to strong El Nino weather pattern in Europe. This is great news for the Morzine snow forecast as it means a lot of snowfall and low temperatures to keep the snow in fantastic condition.
El Nino occurs every 3 to 4 years and and we all remember what an awesome season for powder 2011/12 was in the PDS and Morzine.
