Has Morzine snow yet? We are well on the way to winter here in Morzine with the locals forecasting lots of snow and a legendary season ahead. There’s an old Savoyard farmer’s saying “Snow before Toussaint, wicked winter to come” – Toussaint falls on November 1st and is the last French bank holiday before Christmas. I am happy to report that there is now snow both at the top of the Pleney and in Avoriaz thanks to the wintery weather over the last weekend. Our chalets in Morzine look set to provide the perfect base for you to enjoy excellent conditions this winter.
This weekend over 10 cm of snow fell above Avoriaz and it even snowed down to 1100m on Saturday. With just over 8 weeks to go, the excitement about this winter is building. We have our fingers crossed that 2013/14 ski season is going to top what has been remarkable snowfall in the last two winters in the Portes du Soleil. Although the recent snowfall may not hang around to contribute to this winter’s base, it is mimicking the previous year’s weather pattern – so fingers crossed!
Morzine is one of the closest resorts to Geneva airport and is in the heart of one of the most extensive ski regions in the French Alps, The Portes du Soleil. The area offers 650km of groomed pistes, limitless off-piste terrain and 207 ski lifts plus parks including the infamous Burton stash, boardercross and a night ski slope on the Pleney.
Although Morzine stands at only 1000m, we have an impressive snow record due to our location between Lac Leman and Mont Blanc. A perfect micro climate is created to bring snow to this area from the beginning of December through to the end of April.
So you don’t miss out on the early snowboarding and skiing, we are running pre Christmas breaks in our Morzine chalets – £269 mid week breaks £299 for long week ends and weeks starting from £399 including free transfers and half board accommodation.
